September 1, 2006 Farmer's Market and Art A-Faire Held weekly on Friday from Noon to Dusk (approx. 5 p.m.) Held most Fridays at the outdoor Pier Plaza next to the Huntington Beach Pier, a certified Farmer's Market sells the finest California grown fruits and vegetables, breads, nuts, flowers and perishables. September 1, 2006 Plein Air Painting Art Contest - Artists paint scenes around Huntington Beach until a specific date (Sept.16). The works are then displayed and sold at auction as a fundraising event for the Huntington Beach Art Center. September 1, 2006 - Civil War Re-enactment Encampment- Setup begins for this annual Labor Day Weekend event in Huntington Central Park behind Central Library. Costumed actors portray the mid-1800 Civil War era in which many Californians traveled east to participate in. Central Park is transformed into a battleground between the Artillery and Infantry with combat, cannon fire and encampments. A special twilight concert will be held on Saturday. Also on site will be vendor booths featuring books, period costumes and even youth dressed to the era. The event is sponsored by the Huntington Beach Historical Society.
