California Footvolley World Championship April 30-May 1, 2016
Location: next to Huntington Beach Pier.
Footvolley is a beach / sand sport originating in Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach in 1965. Although the sport has had a following in that country for 50 some years, it took nearly 40 years for it to gain traction globally with the introduction and modification of rules in Miami Beach. A 2003 event led to the sport's expansion in a number of countries, though growth in the U.S. was slow.
Footvolley is beach volleyball except players are not allowed to use their hands and a football replaces the volleyball.
California Footvolley has grown from humble beginnings in 2014 to include California Footvolley Professional circuit. It takes place in Huntington Beach twice a year usually in April and August. You could call it grassroots growth, though sand would more accurately describe the terrain. The event is free to spectators. califootvolley.com Info: Giordano Carretta (949) 701-9986 giordanocarretta@gmail.com
