Huck Finn Fishing Derby is an annual event for children which includes assistance in fishing from volunteers, and prizes for smallest and largest fish, costume contest and more.

Time: 9:15 a.m. - Noon. Check in begins at 8 a.m.

Ages 4 through 15 are invited to experience the fun of recreational fishing.

The City of Huntington Beach Community Services department is proud to offer the annual Huck Finn fishing derby at the Huntington Beach pier for free! This year's event will take place from 9:30am to Noon.

This is a Huntington Beach City Parks and Recreation Free Event! The Community Services Department and Let’s Go Fishing at the Huntington Beach pier will host the annual Huck Finn Fishing Derby on the Huntington Beach Pier. All types of saltwater fish have been caught over the years including; sharks, stingrays, perch, croakers, sea bass, lizard fish, topsmelt, and sardines!

Children ages 4 through 15 are invited to experience the fun of recreational fishing off the Huntington Beach pier with prizes given to the largest fish caught in each division and the best dressed Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher! Bait is provided to participants as well as a limited amount of loaner rods offered by CA Fish and Wildlife. 

Fish caught at this event have included:

• saltwater fish -- sharks, stingrays, perch, croakers, sea bass, lizard fish, topsmelt, and sardines
• Sponsors -- California Fish and Wildlife, Newport Landing, Sports Chalet, Phil Freidman Outdoors, Surf City Store
• Face painting provided by the Community Services Department
