The vibrant program also features performances by the Orange County Dance Center Summer Workshop Ballet and Jazz Ensembles. From refined classicism to captivating modernity, this 40th Anniversary Season opener promises an energizing dance experience beyond expectations on a local stage.
Founded in 1977, Ballet Repertory Theatre is an all-volunteer dance organization based in Huntington Beach, under the artistic direction of Anthony and Terri Sellars. The mission of this regional company is twofold: to provide serious-minded students from the well-established Orange County Dance Center with the opportunity to perform in a professional atmosphere, and to offer to the local community quality ballet performances at affordable prices. Composed of approximately 50 dancers, the company begins its season in the fall with a program of classical and contemporary pieces, continues in December with 15 performances of The Nutcracker, and concludes with a full-length, classical ballet in the spring. Its extensive repertoire includes such major works as Cinderella, Coppelia, La Bayadère, Giselle’s Act II, Swan Lake’s Act II, and Sleeping Beauty’s Act III. Productions feature frequent appearances by guest artists from Utah’s critically acclaimed Ballet West. Ballet Repertory Theatre's main venue is the Golden West College Theater in Huntington Beach, though the company has no affiliation with the college. Dancers train and rehearse at the Orange County Dance Center at 16161 Springdale Street in Huntington Beach, also owned and directed by Anthony and Terri Sellars. Dancers often go on to perform with larger, renowned companies or to participate in prestigious college dance programs. Several are currently continuing their careers with Alvin Ailey, Alberta Ballet, Ballet West, and Pacific Northwest Ballet.
