The 2021 US Open is being held later and smaller as a modified event - a Challenger Series and NOT a World Surf League Qualifying Series as in normal years. It is expected to return in 2022 as a full throttle mega-beach festival. The World Surf League lists it as such:

Surf City, California -- Usually held over 9 days, this is the signature event for Huntington Beach. The contest is a 6 star qualifying series event with concessions and entertainment.

Building on the success of past events, the US Open of Surfing has returned to its roots and first and foremost, a surfing competition. With less emphasis on the beach concerts and partying, the festival event now makes visiting a more pleasurable experience for surfing fans.
