Join the fun in the Annual HB Senior Surf Invitational open
to surfers ages 50+
The HB Senior Surf Invitational takes place on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier beginning at 7:30 a.m. The City of Huntington Beach and the Huntington Beach Council on Aging (HBCOA) invite all surfers ages 50+ to register through Michael E. Rodgers Seniors’ Center.
The criteria for judging include this description:
Judges look for: Wave
selection, maneuvers, fluidity
and style. Surfers should
execute the most radical
controlled maneuvers in the
critical section of a wave with
speed and power throughout. The
surfer who executes such
maneuvers on the biggest and or
best waves for the longest
functional distance shall be
given higher scores.
Through the surfing competition,
the HBCOA promotes and
encourages the “active aging”
lifestyle. The Huntington Beach
area is home to more than 50,000
seniors age 50 and older. HBCOA
supports seniors and their
families through various
services and events offered
through the Michael E. Rodgers
Seniors Center and Seniors
Center Outreach.
Athletes will compete within a 5
year age group (50-54, 55-59,
60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+), and
will be judged on wave
selection, maneuvers, fluidity
and style.
