May 3, 2009, Sweeny Todd, Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime is a musical about an unjustly exiled barber. Sweeny Todd returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop. Presented by the Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts. Book by Hugh Wheeler, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, produced by special arrangement with Musical Theater International.
