Grunion Run at HB - expected times: 9:50-11:50 p.m. Out of towners and locals visiting the US Open have questions about the grunion run, as the beaches close at 10 p.m. So how do you catch them when the beach is closed? Answer: You must obtain a fishing license to be on the beach fishing for grunion after 10 p.m. You can buy a day license at WalMart on Beach Blvd. & Talbert Ave., Big 5 Sporting Goods, Sports Chalet, Dick's Sporting Goods, Sharkbait, Mahi Tackle, Mako Matts Marine, Pacific Edge and Fishermans Hardware HB.
Surfing Hall of Fame - at Huntington Surf & Sport. Inductees Gordon Clark, CJ Hobgood & John Davis, three legendary watermen, a visionary surfboard blank manufacturer, a former world and U.S. Open of Surfing champion and a local icon are inducted into the 2015 Surfer’s Hall of Fame. The 2015 inductees will have their hand and footprints immortalized in cement for the ages on Friday, July 31st at 10 a.m. in front of Huntington Surf & Sport. Poetry Reading and Workshop with Mariano Zaro & Scott Noon Creley - at Tebot Bach Poetry Club. Mariano Zaro, author of four poetry books, earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Granada (Spain) and a Master’s in Literature from the University of Zaragoza (Spain). He teaches Spanish for Heritage Speakers at Rio Hondo College (Whittier, CA). Scott Noon Creley, a founding director of The San Gabriel Valley Literary Festival, holds an MFA in poetry from California State University, Long Beach, and a BA in writing from UC Riverside.
