FREE: Friday, Nov. 22, 10:30am, Room A, Rodgers Senior Center, HB Council on Aging presents Pulitzer Prize nominee Craig MacDonald speaking on "Yosemite's Unknown Heroine," Jessie Benton Fremont, who with her friends, successfully helped save Yosemite Valley and what became the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias before John Muir had heard of Yosemite. This was the first time the federal government saved scenic lands for future generations and it led to the environmental and national as well as state park movements. You'll hear what's being done to finally properly recognize this amazing woman in Congress and elsewhere. All ages welcome. The author will sign his latest books on "Yosemite's Unsung Hero" and "Old West Christmas-Tales with a Twist" at the event. Following the speech there will be an optional multi-course Thanksgiving Celebration Lunch, including Roast Turkey & Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Cornbread Stuffing, Green Beans, Cranberry Sauce, Parker House Roll, Pumpkin Pie & Topping.
