Ribs, Pigs & Watermelons Dates of Event: August 16-18, 2013 Time of Event: Friday: 5:00PM-10:00PM Saturday: Noon – 10:00PM Sunday: Noon-8:00PM Description of Event: American Family Housing (AFH) will be hosting their 2nd annual Pigs, Ribs and Watermelon Professional BBQ competition and Beer festival at the Huntington State Beach parking area of Pacific Coast Hwy and Beach Blvd. This is a KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) sanctioned event and competing for the $10,000.00 purse will be the top west coast and some nationally ranked BBQ teams. On Saturday there is a Kids BBQ competition for ages 6-15. Advanced registration is required for competition. Under the main tent there will be free watermelon for all with watermelon carving demonstrations, watermelon eating contest, seed spitting for distance contest, and other interesting watermelon activities. On stage will be a virtually constant stream of professional entertainers enlivening the festivities with Rock, County and Jazz music, something for everyone. Pigs, Ribs and Watermelon Professional BBQ competition and Beer festival this year will feature over a dozen flavors of small lot craft beers from local and national suppliers for you to enjoy along with the flavorful BBQ meat. Wetlands viewing - Birders, nature lovers and the curious are invited to visit Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve, a significant flyway for migrating birds. Binoculars recommended. Location: Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint and Warner on the east side of the highway. 1.5 mile loop trail and 300 acres of protected wetlands! Beach Bonfire - Free first come, first serve fire rings offer a chance to have an outdoor cooked meal. Bring your own wood. The rings are located on Huntington City Beach south of the HB Pier, at Huntington State Beach (PCH & Beach Blvd. entrance), and Bolsa Chica State Beach (PCH between Warner & Seapoint). Hours: open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. All beaches charge parking fees (around $15) but there also is some street coin meter parking near City Beach at Beach Blvd. and Pacific Coast Highway.
