January 7, 2006 Surfing - National Scholastic Surfing Association NSSA 2005/2006 Season Juniors competition. Contest 5 in this series is A rated. It will be held at Oceanside Pier in Oceanside. It is open for middle school short board competitors grade 6 to 8; middle school longboard competition is for boys and girls grade 6 to with 9 foot minimum board size; high school shortboard for grades 9 through 11; high school longboard for boys and girls grades 9 through 11 with 9 foot board minimum; girls surfing shortboard grades 6 through 11; bodyboarding grades 6 through 11. Fee: $50 one time membership (t-shirt included). $30 pre-registration; $20 second event fee; day of registration as space permits is $40. January 7, 2006 Saturday Car Cruisers known as the Donuts Derelicts share Hot Rods, Street Cars, Woodies, Imports and a variety of restored vehicles at Adams and Magnolia Ave. Parking is available in the Ace parking lot or Adams Avenue Donut Shop with overflow parking extending to Drug Emporium lot across Adams. January 7, 2006 Gardening - Volunteers are invited to Shipley Nature Center. Everyone is invited to participate in planting, weeding, and other restoration activities the first Saturday of each month. Gates are open from 9 to noon while we give the Nature Center TLC (tender loving care). Bring a pair of gardening gloves and any gardening tools you have available such as shovel, hoe, or rake. Please label tools clearly with your name. Wear sturdy shoes (closed toe, please) and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Time: 9 a.m. to Noon. January 7, 2006 Art - Windows Gallery in Huntington Beach Central Library is holding its annual Member's Co-op Show of the Huntington Beach Art League. Located on the first floor of the library, the exhibit features works from amateur and professional artists with varied themes that range from landscapes to abstracts. Orange County California Genealogical Society (OCCGS) is a non-profit, educational organization in Huntington Beach with 700 members. It's purpose is to collect, preserve and disseminate knowledge and information in regards to genealogy and related historical, biographical and heraldic data. January 7, 2006 Surf City to Surf City Goodwill Ride 2006. The ride will begin at 6:00 am next to the 405 Freeway and Beach Blvd. in Huntington Beach. The run is approximately 415 miles and will be run up the coast highway to Santa Cruz. There will be ride pins for participants. Each participant is responsible for their own costs. Goodwill articles will be carried by the riders from Huntington Beach to give to the City of Santa Cruz at the conclusion of the ride. For more information call (714) 444-3771.
