May 7, 2005 Surfing Competition - HB Surf Series Surfing
Competition - The HB Surf Series will hold four of six events at the most
visible surf venue in the world, the famous Southside of Huntington Beach
Pier. Nine divisions comprise the events and include: Super Grom, Boys,
Juniors, Men, Masters, Super Men, Women, Longboard, and Professional. World
class surfers Jeff and Barry Deffenbaugh created this event, providing an
opportunity for surfing in categories for groms, masters and longboard. The
2005 series features six events with a combined cash purse and prize

Ol' Fishin' Hole Derby - Volunteers are being sought for the Ol'
Fishin' Hole Derby to be held on May 7 at Chris Carr Park. The city of
Huntington Beach Community Services Department and the Huntington Beach
Kiwanis Club sponsor this event. Approximately 180 children with
disabilities are expected, and they will need a lot of help. Many of these
children have never been fishing before, and it has proven to be a fun event
for both the children and the volunteers. The Huntington Beach Rotary Club
will provide lunch. We are asking that volunteers arrive at 8:30 a.m., and
bring a fishing net if they have one. Please call 536-5486 to sign up to

May 7, 2005 Play - The Crucible by Arthur Miller (Death
of a Salesman). Although the events of the
play are based on the witchcraft trials that took place in Salem,
Massachusetts in 1692, Miller was liberal in his fictionalization of those
events. The
witchcraft trials grew out of moral system of the Puritans, which
promoted interference in others' affairs as well as a repressive code of
conduct that frowned on any diversion from norms of behavior.
The play is presented by Huntington Beach
Playhouse at Huntington Beach Library and Cultural Center Theater, 7111
