Distance Derby sponsored by the City of Huntington Beach is Orange County's
longest running road race event. This scenic, flat oceanfront course
includes a 10 mile run, 5 mile run/walk, and a surf kids fun run. Proceeds
benefit Project Self-Sufficiency. Times: 10 mile run begins at 7
a.m.; 5 mile run/walk - 8:30 a.m.; surf kids fun run - 10 a.m.

Info: You can pick up your bib number and shirt on Friday, August 19th at
the Edison Community center between 3pm & 7 pm. Edison Community center is
located at 21377 Magnolia at the corner of Hamilton & Magnolia, across from
Edison High school. You can also pick up your t-shirt & bib number on race
day just north of the pier in pier plaza beginning at 6:00 a.m. The start
line is located just north of the pier on the multi-purpose path. Parking:
Parking at the Beach in the summer months is always at a premium. Please
allow plenty of time to find parking. Walking distance from the start line
could be anywhere from .1 to 1 mile depending on parking availability. From
Main street, at 6th street, Orange or Olive, go right or left and begin
looking for residental/street parking. Parking meters are enforced. No
participant parking is available in the Pier Plaza Parking lot at 6th and
PCH. Paid parking is available in the parking structure located off Walnut
(Main street to Walnut, go left, parking structure on the left and right).
The structure is located 2 blocks from the event site.

August 20, 2005 Bolsa Chica Wetlands and Mesa Tour meets the third Sunday of every month. Time: 10 a.m. to Noon. This is a two-hour walking tour of the Bolsa Chica Mesa and Wetlands conducted by the Bolsa Chica Land Trust. This docent-led tour makes five stops along the walkbridge and loop trails of the wetlands. Meet in the Ecological Reserve parking lot. Warm clothing, comfortable shoes and binoculars are recommended.
